Cleethorpes
Cleethorpes was originally made up of three small villages know as the thorpes. They were called Itterby, Oole and Thrunscoe, and were part of a wider parish referred to as Clee.
The name "Cleethorpes" is thought to come from joining these two words.
In the 19th century Cleethorpes was a fishing village but after the development of the railway between the industrial towns of Yorkshire and the coast it grew rapidly into the popular seaside and holiday resort it is today.
